Speaker Thumper

I love funky breaks and synth heavy electronica just as much as I love rock and hip hop. My style of blending music is sparatic with a hidden meaning through spoken and sung words on tracks. I always try to drop tracks that have something of an underlying theme. here I offer my newest set. Enjoy and spread the word. My partner and I strive to keep it funky and bass heavy.

The PLUGS...

"The Weeknd is a Toronto-based R&B singer named Abel Tesfaye (born , 1990).[1][2] Songs recorded under The Weeknd name first leaked in late 2010, though the identity of the individual behind the project was initially unknown.[3][4] The Weeknd released a nine-song album, House of Balloons, on 21 March 2011. His style has been classified as "Prog RnB" and "Hipster RnB" based on sub-mainstream status and "hipster" followers. The album is a part of a trilogy which includes Thursday and Echoes of Silence, to be released in the summer and autumn respectively.[citation needed] The song "High for This" is currently featured in the promo for the final season of the HBO show "Entourage." On June 16, 2011, the album was named as a longlisted nominee for the 2011 Polaris Music Prize.[5] On July 6, the album was named as a short listed (one of ten) nominee for the 2011 award." Not bad for a 21 year old!

Haydn Hoffman
"Southern California’s saturated dance music scene is home to countless DJ’s and producers, but in a short time, Haydn Hoffman has managed to differentiate himself from the crowd and establish himself globally as one of the hottest rising producers/remixers in the electro-house scene. Following 3 years of touring and recording as a guitarist, Hoffman began producing, drawing inspiration from the sounds of electro veterans such as Designer Drugs and Le Castle Vania. After a little over a year in the scene, Hoffman has already been compared to both of them as well as other major artists such as The Bloody Beetroots and Afrojack, and he has managed to gain a loyal fan base by being featured on a multitude of major music blogs. He was recently listed on Salacious Sound’s “30 hottest songs of the blogosphere” and his tracks on the blog aggregator Hype Machine have been favorited over 5000 times, often peaking near the top of its popular list. His accomplishments don’t stop there; Hoffman’s tracks have received airplay on BBC Radio One, have elicited praise from major producers/DJ’s such as Monarch Productions (Chris Brown, Justin Bieber), Kissy Sell Out, and Dani Deahl, and have racked up tens of thousands of plays on his Soundcloud account alone.
Haydn Hoffman recently released the single “Out of Time” on Ventuno Recordings with remixes by Barletta and Mr. Vega .  Hoffman is continuing to produce remixes and original tracks, and as asserted by several in the blogosphere, is proving himself to be one of Southern California’s most promising electro-house producers/DJ’s."

Naples Summer Bar Series: Grumpy's Ale House

We have decided that in order to better attest to why we don't move to another city and join a music scenes there, that we would just do a few quips on our local scene and why we feel that we live in a great area; a great area that deserves an amazing music scene.

Where is Naples, Florida? Naples is three hours southwest of Orlando, two hours south of Tampa, and about an hour and a half north west of Miami. As far as location Naples is pretty equal driving distance from some major players as far as music scenes go. Collier county in which Naples is located is also one of the wealthiest counties per capita in the United States and an annual location for the rich, famous, and successful to vacation during the gorgeous months of January thru May. With pristine beaches and some of the best restaurants in the nation it isn't hard to figure out why people come to Naples and why Naples ranks seventh (7th) in the nation among alcohol consumption markets.

So enough rambling...I moved to Naples Park which is a working class community that is literally less than a mile distance parallel to the Gulf of Mexico. Naturally I went to the beach almost everyday and began to socialize and make local friends (I am now a local). It didn't take long to find a bar within two football fields from my house with cheap drinks, a good jukebox, some cute bartenders, pool tables, and so on. After several visits I met the owner, not but 8 years my senior and seemingly a well known, energetic, and outgoing person. I was quickly inducted into the family of friends and so my social life begins.

Grumpy's Ale House can't be more than 2000 square feet, but boasts four pool tables, two beer pong tables, three gaming machines (two video poker machines, and a punching bag), two dart boards, a shuffle board simulator, three HD televisions, another 12 or so regular televisions, a stage for live music, one of the BEST jukeboxes I have ever seen (I'm just saying this JB has every song known to man on it), 25 bar stools, several tables, and front and back entrances. Even with so much to do and look at inside it never feels crowded, everyone there seems to know everyone, and there is rarely any type of skirmish.

As if that isn't enough to impress anyone looking for a drink and a pool table Grumpy's has live music of some sort every night of the week. Mostly hosting live bands Grumpy's has recently decided to be the host of a quickly growing underground music scene hosting Trend & Möet's "That's What's Up" Wednesdays sponsored by Pinnacle Vodka.

Grumpy's has over 15 beers on draft (Smithwicks, Two-Hearted Ale, and Blue Point Blueberry Ale to name a few), as well as, over 30 bottled labels of beer. Not a beer drinker? Not a problem! Grumpy's also offers a full service liquor bar and wine.

Cool Remixing Toys

DeeJays are known for usually being the person who has the version of your favorite song you can’t seem to find anywhere you look for it. That is for several different reasons I am not at liberty to discuss because of the code of ethics a true deejay follows. I will however tell you that most deejays either makes there own remix or follow deejays why do.

Here at North House Music we have producers and deejays we follow separately and alike. I’ve chosen not to start a heated debate as to which the best are, but rather discuss the tools they make to discuss their remixes and re-edits.

First we have the KORG Electribe EMX-1

Next up is the KORG Electribe ESX-1. The main difference here is that this particular version is more of a sampler than synth oscillator, but with both still being groove boxes.

Now on to some of my favorites...Both of the KORG Electribes are considered groove machines or groove boxes meaning they can be used to sequence drums. I feel that for the more unique sounds it is best to buy a few external toys like these KORG Kaoss Pads that follow. I know I am showing alot of KORG products. I mostly bought KORG because of fidelity and compatibility.

Here's the KORG KP3, which is a touch screen dynamic effects processor and sampler.

And of course the KORG Kaossillator Pro...

Here's a great side by side comparison:

There are many other things out there for music creation, but as far as remixing quickly and with high fidelity these are some great products to check out.

Play Something I Can Dance To

Contributing to the evolution of the underground music scene in Southwest Florida presents many challenges including finding a balance between what people are used to hearing and introducing them to styles that are unfamiliar. From time to time me and TREND will get asked if we can "play something that I can dance to" by a member of the audience. This inevitably happens when people around the room are grooving to what we are bumping. Being the type of gent that I am, rather than taking this offensively, I tend to redirect their attention to the people dancing and shrug... My humble indication that if others are dancing to it, maybe you should try that...

But recently I've been reflecting on the fact that perhaps what's being asked of us is instruction. One of my strongest beliefs is that as a human species we are all one family dancing our way into existence. And the music we dance to is the expression of our shared emotional experiences here on Earth. That movement that we are compelled to act out is one of the common threads that weaves us all together into one people with one story.

Although Dubstep has been around in various forms for nearly a decade, this relatively new form of sound vibration made huge surges around the world in the last 3 years. While it has begun to filter into Top 40 tracks, radio and television ads, and even movie scores, one question that stills seems to be daunting people is how to dance to it.

With half-rhythm drum patterns ranging from 66.5 to 71 BPM, dubstep is typically propelled by wobbly basslines that are running at twice the beats per minute. This can cause a disconnect for dancers who are used to keeping pace with the snare, kicks and highs of the beat. The nature and structure of this style calls for more interpretative dance such as some of the examples below:

Cookie Monsta - Optimus Prime
DOWNLOAD

Cubism - Humans v2.0
DOWNLOAD

Blue Foundation - Eyes On Fire (Zeds Dead Remix)
DOWNLOAD

MiM0SA - Sirius
DOWNLOAD

Datsik - Southpaw Style
DOWNLOAD

And for those of you that feel more comfortable in a group, here's an example of some strength in numbers:

La Preuve 4 aka Dubstep Dance France

Even Producers envision what fresh moves to dubstep might look like. Here's two examples of videos synced to nasty wobble:

DS 4 dubSteP Nation - DeeP Relax

Girls v. Guys Dubstep Video

The point is that it doesn't really matter how or where you choose to dance, as long as you are feeling the music and you are brave enough to access how it makes you feel, by giving your body permission to express the emotions, you'll be dancing to whatever's played.

Dub Whamp Drums and Wobble

Here's the top 5 dank tracks I found on Soundcloud this week. Some of these came by way of introduction and some from exploration, but the common thread between them is that they all expand the familiar aspects of the styles of music expressed into uncharted territory...

First up is "Original Dub" by Klumzy, a producer out of the UK, he brings us a LTJ Bukem inspired deep roller...

"Original Dub" - Klumzy

ORIGINAL DUB MIXDOWN by KLUMZY

Next, hailing from the slopes of Mt. Bachelor in Oregon is BasssGhost, who has been innovating on  the tribal/meditative tip for last 8 years that I've known him and never fails to bring out aspects of the frenetic from the depths of chill... Epitomizes the explosive qualities of fire and ice.

"Aztec Earth Goddess" - BasssGhost

AztecEarthGoddess (Take 4) by BasssGhost

The Hi-Yah's have quickly become one of my favorite production outfits. There interpretation of Martin Solveig and Dragonette's club smasher "Hello" is one of the hardest hitting remixes of what was originally a very pop-oriented song.

Hello (The Hi-Yahs Remix) by The Hi-Yahs

And these Dallas,Texas natives live up to the reputation of everything being bigger, at least when it comes to the bass lines in their dubstep rework of Ace Hood's "Hustle Hard". Naaaaaahsty!

Hustle Hard (The Hi-Yahs remix) by The Hi-Yahs

Speaking of groups that go hard, Germany's digitalism never fails to excel when it comes to their production. On the"2 Hearts (Amazona Boys Remix)" you'll find driving, dance floor friendly beats, progressive, electro atmospherics, indie dance lyrics and vocals, and quality drops wrapped in a blanket of dreamy synths and pads... Think Duran Duran meets Kraftwerk meets Le CastleVania. <===[FREE BONUS MATERIAL at previous link]=== d-_-b

BONUS: Some Whamp and Wobble...

the backstory and a little treat

Most that know me personally know that I have been a lyricist for many, many years (12 years to be exact). I have always been driven by music, seeing how it's the only thing that gives me a genuine feeling of satisfaction.

So between stints in the Army and college I always had music as my underlying force. I have been in and out of studios, done many shows, and worked with many people. Still I always felt a void at the end of the day. Now to the present; I decided it was time to do something. Since I have been bartending for many years and making great money it was time to stop going out and blowing money on booze and fun and start focusing.

I found my way into mixing records because of the fact that every time I looked through anyone's iPod I would find an artist I loved but never the songs I liked by that artist. Yet people loved what I had on my iPod, so I started mixing records a few months ago on some turntables I bought. I quickly realized vinyl, although classic, was a total drag and expensive. So I decided to go digital. My list of equipment:

-Black Macbook
-Focusrite Saffire 6
-Hercules Steel Controller
-APC40
-MPK25
-Ableton Live 8
-Korg Electribe EMX1
-Korg Kaossilator Pro
-Korg KP3 effects processor
-2 Rokit 5's
-2 Stanton ST150's
-Stanton M203 Mixer

Now my PA is BAD ASS:

-12 channel Soundcraft Mixer
-DBX rack
-4000 Watt Crown Amplifier
-2 JBL Mrx 525's

I am driven to bring my ideal sound to all those who will listen and jam... driven to be my own boss. When DJ Möet and I met, I almost instantaneously started to brainstorm and implement the master plan. As a business partner he is brilliantly intelligent and well thought out, and as a musician he is permanently inspired. Additionally, this guy has put me under his wing and taught me what 12 years of spinning records has taught him...

So with out further ado I am proud to post my first mix. It has a solid mix of artists that break the mold and producers that are creatively incredible.

Stay tuned for re-edits by TREND and DJ Möet.

Download..push play...turn it up...jam to it...spread the word...BE EASY

We Bring The Siiiiiick Beats

North House Music is an entertainment collective led by Pascal A DuPuy and Erik Van Horn, better known as DJ Möet and TREND, that exists to bring the vibrant underground creative scene of SouthWest Florida to the rest of the world.

North House Music has secured a monthly residency at BURN by Rocky Patel in the Mercato in North Naples. The "Chemistry" event is an exploration of the elegant, sensual side of electronica. Think chill, downtempo, ultralounge ala Thievery Corporation or Supreme Beings of Leisure...

The weekly residency at Grumpy's Ale House in the Pavilion Shopping Plaza is where North House Music showcases the gritty, underground, bass pounding blend of electro, dubstep, hip hop, trance, progressive, and new age house. This is where all the locals know to come party, dance, mingle, and relax to the unique sounds that DJ Möet & TREND bring to the music scene.

Stay tuned to this blog for reviews of the music, art, films, and happenings that inspire us and drive us to do what we do. Until then here's a taste of our sound...
